About Me

I was born, Laura Burk in Minneapolis, MN.  I lived in Minnesota for many years before moving to Orlando, FL and then to Washington, DC.

My career and training is primarily is sales, public relations and event planning.  Most of my clientele are small business owners, however I also work with national accounts and franchises.  You can read about my previous work or my portfolio

Over the years, I have donated my time and talent to many non-profit and support organizations.  Many of the programs that I supported were military or veterans programs.  Additionally, I have been on steering committees, focus groups and also a volunteer for numerous organizations
(My Affiliations List with More Information is listing on the following page)
I have two beautiful daughters (and one in heaven).  My oldest daughter is married to our son-in-law who is serving in the Air Force and my youngest daughter is in nursing school.

In 2015, I married my husband, Colin Benson, becoming a "Navy Wife" and have since received a crash course in military life, (as we were both in our 40's entering into a military marriage) although many of my family members are military veterans.

Since I did not take the traditional military marriage route and have not experienced a deployed spouse, I didn't consider myself a military spouse (initially).  My husband had already completely well over 20+ years when we met (he is still active duty).

I have, however been introduced to various military communities throughout my life time both personally and professionally.  Which you can read about in my Blog: Military Life

Colin and I have two adorable puppies:  Wesley (Boxer) and Buttercup (Puggle).  This is a photo of us in San Francisco, CA when we traveled the US for over one month.

Due to our living arrangements, in a medical facility, we are not able to live with our puppies - which is why I lovingly dote on them as I write in this blog under the category:
"Puppies"

We love to travel and visit interesting "local" places in small town USA, as well as site seeing in some of America's most popular major cities.

We write about many of our travel experiences in this blog under the category: "Travels"

in 2016, my husband accepted PEP tour orders with the US Navy to Germany.  We first moved to Washington, DC to attend language courses.
During this time, I completed my training as an Educational Instructor with Bertliz.  Working with Berlitz has helped me develop unique training skills and has allowed me the opportunity to meet interesting people from all over the world.

In 2017, my husband suddenly became mysterious and seriously ill; resulting in us moving permanently to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, with me as his full time caregiver.

I write about my husband's unique medical condition in this blog under the category:  "Military Caregiver"

When I am not attending my husband's medical appointments and treatments, I continue to work with select clientele in Public Relations and Consulting work.

I am a Christian.  My faith is extremely important to me.  Throughout my life I have struggled with anxiety and depression; however, I am free in Christ.  It is my belief in God that has pulled me through the trials of life and has made me who I am today.  I share my faith in my blog, simply titled "faith
